History of Latourette
Latourette's greatest claim to fame is that it is home to the Latourette Golf Course and Country Club, which constitutes the vast majority of the neighborhood. The area was once made up of large swathes of farmland until the area's namesake, the Latourette family, sold off their agriculture acres to New York City. The Latourette family's circa-1870 mansion, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, still stands on the property and has been converted into the golf course's clubhouse.

Transportation in Latourette
Car commuters can reach the Staten Island Expressway from Latourette by heading north on Forest Hill Road. Once they get on the Expressway, drivers can arrive at the Verrazano Narrows Bridge in just over five minutes. To reach the St. George Terminal for a short, free ferry ride to Brooklyn, commuters can cross the island by car using Victory Boulevard. The drive takes approximately fifteen minutes. The nearest Staten Island Railway train stops at the Oakwood Heights station less than two miles away. Local and express buses to Manhattan stop along Arthur Kill Road south of Latourette Park.
